Fabian Thiel is a physical geographer and works as a research assistant in the Remote Sensing and Geoinformation Processing group. His focus is on optical remote sensing and geoinformatics.

In the working group, he is responsible for the creation and maintenance of an Earth Observation Data Cube, where Sentinel-2 and Landsat data for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Baltic Sea region are systematically processed.

In his work, he mainly relies on open source solutions and is also involved in the development of the EnMAP-Box, a free software for the analysis of (hyperspectral) remote sensing data.
