Study Goals / Concept

The degree course aims to award a Master of Science in “Earth Sciences and Global Change” to graduates who have gained a thorough understanding of the subject matter and methods and are able to independently solve complex research tasks in an international context. Classes are taught in English.

You will not only acquire in-depth knowledge of geosciences, but also the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical context. This includes the combination of fieldwork with analytical laboratory methods, the evaluation and interpretation of data, a sound understanding of geoscientific processes, and the development of solution strategies for the sustainable use of natural spaces. In addition, you will learn to work independently in a scientific context and to communicate your findings effectively.

You can start the degree course in either the winter or summer semester. It takes 4 semesters and is based on the knowledge acquired in an undergraduate degree course in geosciences, e. g. BSc in Geosciences or Geography. In addition to a few compulsory modules that provide an overview of the topics covered in the degree course, you can choose from a wide range of modules according to your own interests (see figure).
