ReWetSpec

Developing Hyperspectral Indicators for Monitoring Fen Re-wetting

In ReWetSpec we want to develop hyperspectral indicators for the monitoring of rewetted fen peatlands with the core study area in Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania. Based on hyperspectral spaceborne sensors, e.g. EnMAP, in combination with hyper- and multispectral UAV data and field spectroscopy we want to understand the spectral variation of peatland vegetation along a moisture gradient. Multi-date hyperspectral information will be used to describe spectral variation through space and time. Different methods, such as ordination and unmixing using hyperspectral temporal metrics will be tested to map peatland vegetation accurately and quantitatively. In collaboration with the Thünen-Institute findings from the hyperspectral data sources will be combined with dense time series of multispectral indicators to make the monitoring of peatland rewetting activities more operational.
